                                       Newmarket, Ontario

Due to greed, ignorance and arrogance 350 healthy animals in
an OSPCA shelter in Newmarket, Ontario  were scheduled to be put         to death.  Public outcry and the courage of a couple of dedicated             volunteers, who contacted the media  about plans by the
management , brought a halt to the massacre

Unfortunately before it was stopped 102 animals were killed
for no reason. With media  involved the death squad needed
an excuse and cited a virulent strain of ringworm as the reason               for the decision to kill all the animals.  Likened to  H1N1  they said
they did it to protect the public from a  disease which could                      conceivably become a public health crisis.

The claim was disproved by the Department of Infectious Disease
for the Municipality of York who inspected  the shelter at the time.          They publicly stated, after more than 150 environmental  tests
run in the facility, there was no proof  a virulent strain of
    ringworm existed.

Why did the death squad want to kill so many healthy animals?
That question has never been answered.  Speculation is there
were renovations planned for the building and it is easier to                     renovate an empty place than one filled with animals

That day the death squad extinguished the lives of dogs, cats
    hamsters and guinea pigs

We must never let something like this happen again and
we must never forget the 102 animals who lost their lives
for no reason other than to be  in the wrong place at the     wrong time with the wrong people.
Each should have been
in a loving home. They didn't have one.

They were taken to
a place to be cared for with tender hands until a loving
home was found to place them in.

Instead they were betrayed by those who were supposed                       to look out for their welfare. There were no tender hands for these 102  little souls

Help bring changes to animal welfare by contacting your local representatives at all three levels of government
Tell them you will not support any politician in the next election if
they do not have animal welfare on their platform

Ask them if they are a member of RAAW
You may be surprised at their answer

THESE ARE A FEW OF THOSE 102 WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT THAT DAY

                            WHY ARE YOU GONE?

YOU ONLY ASKED FOR LOVE AND COMFORT
YOU BROUGHT JOY IN YOUR OWN UNIQUE WAY
YET YOU WERE ABANDONED AND FORGOTTEN
NARY A TENDER TOUCH THAT LAST FATEFUL DAY

SOME FELT YOUR LIFE WAS MEANINGLESS
NO MORE ROOM FOR YOU ON EARTH
THEY LED YOU OFF WITHOUT A THOUGHT
NEVER RECOGNIZING YOUR WORTH

A PRECIOUS SOUL HAS BEEN LOST
WE ALL SHARE SOME OF THE BLAME
YOU DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER
MAN SHOULD HANG HIS HEAD IN SHAME

WE VOW YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
THROUGH TEACHING AND EDUCATING IN YOUR NAME
WE WILL FIGHT SO OTHERS WON’T SUFFER YOUR FATE
YOUR PASSING WILL NOT BE IN VAIN
